Today was busy, but wonderful. Len and Tyler spent time with the Nicaraguan National Police. They really enjoyed the experience. Both had interesting stories to tell, and both were disheartened at the needs and circumstances of the police here. They were able to minister with them and to share about the differences between their police duties in the states and in Nicaragua. Tyler said that 5 women adopted him and said he could stay with them anytime. Apparently the police loved both Tyler and Len, and have asked that they go back on Thursday!
Sheila, Janice, Sandy, and Bill Ford stayed at El Ayudante today to assist with construction. They had a good time and were able to accomplish a good amount. They all appeared to be very tired tonight after a day of hard work, but they enjoyed what they did.
The rest of the group went to the Sacred Heart of Mary child rescue center for the day today. There were medical and dental clinics, along with stories, songs, crafts and pictures. All of the children received hygiene kits and beanie babies. Some of the ladies also handed out shoes to everyone seen there.
Leah bonded with a 3 year old child as soon as she got off the bus. The sweet little girl sat in her lap, as Leah decided to sing a song to her (in English). The child caught on to the idea of singing and began singing praise songs at the top of her lungs. Everyone else was working to set up clinics and sort through supplies to prepare for the day, and we all stopped what we were doing to listen to this sweet little child praise God loud enough for all to hear. She eventually began singing a song that we are familiar with and we all joined in a chorus of singing and clapping our hands. We all saw Jesus through that child today! After she finished singing, a lady that worked at the center pulled out a guitar and lead the children in a couple of songs. She had such a beautiful voice and we were all touched by this gift!
The dental clinic had a particularly difficult day today. They saw about 20 kids and extracted around 30 teeth. There were several kids that were terribly frightened and it took a few people to hold the child down and attempt to calm them as Dr. Roy worked. In the midst of all of this, Holly sprained her shoulder. (Don't worry, she is feeling better.) It was a hard, but productive day for the dental team.
The medical team saw 48 patients today. Dr. Dave reported that the first child he saw probably had undiagnosed cerebral palsy. The child was three years old and could not speak (except for two words), and he did not walk well. It is particularly difficult to see children like this when we know there is only so much that we can do to help them.
We had an ice cream party tonight, and are finishing up preparing for the day tomorrow. We will be going to La Majada tomorrow and are expecting to see about 200 people in medical/dental clinics and VBS. We will also be doing clay pot training and checking in with those who have received clay pots in the past. We are all very happy that we are not in the cold, messy weather of Tennessee tonight! The weather here is still beautiful, although very dusty! The sunsets are beautiful, and the team is happy and healthy. What more could we ask?
Thanks again for the comments and prayers. We really do look forward to reading them together every night and hearing from all of you! It is a fun time to catch up on the news and laugh with one another. We love and miss you all and we thank you for your prayers and support!
Hello Ashley and mission team! We are freezing here! Lots of people around West Tn do not have power and lots of people in Jackson that have JEA phone service has no phone because of ice.We too enjoy reading each night what you have done each day. Even though we can't talk it helps to know all is well. Thank you so much for the blog and by the way , you are doing a great job. Many prayers are going up for each of you. Our church members have the daily agenda and are praying each day for the specific things you are doing. I know God is going to bless each one of you in a special way, maybe already has, for the love you have for the Nica people! Love, Lisa Daniel
ReplyDeleteHowdy Y'all! Well you are not missing this mess we have here! Icy and Snowy and Cold, not all warm and relaxing like y'all have down there! Sounds like you're all having a great trip! Hope you have a great day in Majada. I am sure we will be checking in later tonight to see how it went. Besides the weather not much to report from this area. It has pretty much everything shut down. Keep up the great work and know you are in our prayers as you minister!!
ReplyDeleteHi Dad! Just read about your Tuesday. I know how hard it is for you to see children in pain and scared. I'll be praying for guidance and strenght for you and your team.
ReplyDeleteThe schools closed today for Tipton, Shelby and DSCC. Kirk and Jake are glad that you bought them the longjohns and coats. Keith is without power at Martin. He is staying with Jared. I am at the office. Patients are cancelling-so you are not missing much here except the beautiful white"ice"
Those of you that have been following Josie Gray's heroic story-she has been sent home with no other medical options. Her immune system has been wiped out. We are all very sad.
Praying that the dental services are alittle easier today. See you soon.
Greetings team. It sounds as if you folks are staying busy and being blessed. This is good because you are also being a blessing. Our prayers are with you. You are missing some great weather here, that is if you like ice, snow, and very cold wind.
ReplyDeleteJanice, I hope you are well and enjoying the work. Construction is something you have done before, just be careful. Princess Rella looks all over the house for you both morning and night, whining while she looks. We both miss you. I haven't heard from any of our children so I assume all is well with them.
Love you,
Harrell
Good morning.
ReplyDeleteHope all is well there.
It's hard to believe you all are doing so
much in a short period of time. There have to
be many, many happy and touched hearts there--
the team's as well as theirs. No doubt, God
will continue to bless you and answer the
needed prayers.
All is well here--cold, ice, and snow. Schools
and Church services are canceled today. Maybe
a better day tomorrow.
Sheila --still---Millie Brooks, Mary Grace,
and DM all lonely, miserable, and hungry.
Life's tough!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
We love all of ya'll dm
I left a comment by accident on Mondays comment spot when I meant to leave one on Tuesdays. So please go back and read what I wrote on Mondays. Thanks! Praying for yall!

ReplyDeleteDear Grand-Big,
You're never going to believe this, but since you're in Nicaragua right now, we decided to have snow in Jackson today and Lambuth University is CLOSED. Yep! There is a nice fluffy layer of snowy goodness on the ground and no classes today! Are you jealous?
We all miss you SO much, but I know that you are having the time of your life down there. I saw where you guys are out at Majada school today and that was one of my favorite places when I went! I know that God is working great things in you and in each of the team members this week, and it's okay that you missed the snow day because nothing is more amazing than the ministry He will be doing through your life this week.
You're going to have to get caught up on these All Sing moves when you get back! All of your 41 (possibly 42) Sisters are praying for you and missing you lots!
I love you so much and can't wait to here your stories when you get back!
Oh and by the way, I saw James yesterday and I think he's ready for you to come home. :)
Keep shining your beautiful light, love you,
Millie Cagle
P.S. How would you feel about being a
Great-Grand-Big when you get back?!
Hey all! Sorry I missed writing yesterday. Most counties had no school Tues. although it only rained all day. There might have been some ice really early. Crockett & Gibson went though.
ReplyDeleteIce/snow didn't begin until about 3:00 a.m. Wed. morning. By 8:00 it was finished. Just a light layer of ice and a half inch of snow on top of that. Very pretty this morning. It has melted some although the temperature is 28. Anyway - all schools that I know of are closed. Crockett has no power outages - thank goodness.
Deb & Gail - Daddy still in hospital. May come home Fri or Sat. Waiting for blood thinner to be correct. He's about the same. No better, no worse. Charlene's good. Scott & I went to a rehearsal and dinner Tues night at Larry Smith's for Bal Masque. It was fun. Molly has tried to send you a message and can't figure out the procedure. McLean's are all good.
Oh - I googled "what happens when you flush on an airplane." It's a vacuum device that works like a toilet in an RV. The stuff goes into several holding tanks and then drained at the airport. So now you know!
Good luck with the rest of the week.
Love - Kathy K.
Take care of our Lola .... hope everyone enjoys every moment and what a wonderful thing you are doing. Ginny in Michigan
ReplyDeleteDear Team,
ReplyDeleteAs I write this it is about 27 degrees outside. To say the least it is cold brrrrrrr. It sounds like you all are blessing many people and I am sure it goes both ways. So I have to ask in Jan does the rooster crow like in July?? Have a very safe trip home. Blessings, Teresa Spann
